
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Patricia Ann Hugghins Morrow, a longtime member and former president of the Learning Disabilities Association of Alabama. Patricia passed away on September 5, 2025, at the age of 88.
Patricia was a pioneer and tireless advocate for individuals with disabilities in Alabama. She dedicated her life to fighting for the rights of children and adults with disabilities, meeting with decision-makers and politicians to shape policy at local and national levels. Her advocacy was informed by personal experience, professional expertise, and an unwavering commitment to equality and justice for all individuals.
Throughout her career, Patricia served as Director of Disability Services at Faulkner University from 1994 to 2016. She held leadership positions with the Alabama Association of Higher Education and Disability, including serving as president, and participated on numerous committees focused on advancing disability rights and services in higher education.
Patricia joined the Learning Disabilities Association of Alabama in the mid-1980s and served as president of both her local and state affiliates. Her leadership and mentorship touched countless families, students, and colleagues. She shared her knowledge with grace, wit, and compassion, always grounding her work in a deep understanding of federal statutes, case law, and institutional policies.
Patricia is survived by her son John Hugghins Morrow, siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral services were held on September 23, 2025, at Houston Park Church of Christ in Selma, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Houston Park Church of Christ.
LDA of Alabama will forever be grateful for Patricia’s contributions to our organization and to the disability rights movement in our state. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and the progress she helped achieve.
